Abell 2593 / NGC 7649

This object is a galaxy cluster located just over a half billion light years away in the constellation of Pegasus at a declination of +15 degrees.

The brightest galaxy in the image is NGC 7649, below and just left of center. The galaxy spans 1.5 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a huge diameter of 240,000 light years. This galaxy is at the center of the Abell 2593 cluster and is the brightest galaxy in that cluster.

I am most fascinated by the galaxy cluster designated PGC1464004, located just below the center of the image. It looks like a cluster of at least 5 very distant galaxies, the top 2 blue and the bottom 3 orange. It is hard to see in such a tiny object, but I think I see some distortion and star streams.

The width of this field of view is almost 3 million light years.
