Description

This object is a small, 0.6 minute planetary nebula located 3500 light years away in the constellation of Cepheus at a declination of +72 degrees.

As opposed to my previous narrowband PNs this week, this image is purely a LRGB image. The resulting "natural" pink color is intriguing to me.

This is one of many DSO objects which does not quite resemble its nickname, which in this case is the Bowtie Nebula. This object appears differently in an image than it does in the eyepiece, where the central region stands out as the "Bowtie".

It looks to me like we looking almost end-on at this bi-polar nebula. The nebula is dominated by hydrogen gas and shows breakout at each lobe end. The inner structure filamentary shape is complex and interesting. The central star is clearly visible.

I like the double orange/blue star at upper left.
