M63 Sunflower galaxy ... so small in the field with nothing else around (that i have captured), i thought i looked lonely

Took this over four nights cloud dodging all the time, also when there was seeing it was mostly poor

Don't really have the focal length to do this target justice although having said that it is loads better than my previous two attempts with my DSLR

Ongoing problems with my Orion Atlas mount disconnecting randomly from NINA ... i think it the USB connection to the laptop ... this is a major pain so need to get sorted

Having seen Brad's comment regarding is more better i have done an experiment stacking 180 of the best quality lume vs all 329 acceptable quality ... more wins marginally, i will load the evidence as revisions

Description: Following Brad's comments based on his recent Bodes nebula and since i had a gathered what for me is quite a lot of subs on the sunflower i thought i would see what the impact of stacking fewer higher quality frames vs more including lower quality was

I used deepsky stacker and didnt do any "special techniques" other than using the quality score , there was quite a big diff betwen the best and teh worst frames, conditions had been quite murky

I recorded a set of actions in photoshop to make sure basic processing steps used were exactly the same

On this occasion i think more wins but not a dramatic difference

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
