Description

Taken with my WO Zenithstar II 80ED APO, mounted on my spare LX5 drive, this image consists of 96m integration with 120s unguided subs, through my Optolong L-eNhance filter. The full moon, just south of Auriga, washed out my autoguider, and was shining brightly down my scope, with surprisingly little interference. Data were captured in Envisage, stacked and aligned in Penumbra and processed in Startools with a standard workflow.

I originally bought this scope for wider-field visual use, which it does very well, on a Stellarvue M2 Alt-Az mount (a prototype with built in optical encoders, which makes finding things easy with my ArgoNavis). With just a red dot finder, I am going to have to practice my star hopping, and get used to an inverted image.

The great Orion Nebula, an expanse of Ha and OIII emissions, shows up well in narrowband, and this 54x41' apparent FOV, spans approximately 24 LY in reality.

Description: This version was stacked and aligned in Penumbra with HDR brightening and some sharpening. A nice smooth image, but it goes to show how much more detail is visible when processed in Startools.
