Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a spiral galaxy located 200 million light years away in the constellation of Aquarius at a declination of -16 degrees.  It is a magnitude 13 galaxy which spans 2 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a Milky Way size diameter of 120,000 light years.

We are looking at this galaxy at about 35 degrees from edge-on, with the near side being the right side of the disk. The arms are clearly defined but are fragmented.

To each side of the galaxy are faint smudges.  I could find nothing on these objects – I assume that they are smaller dwarf galaxies that are much closer to us than NGC 7246.
