Description

IC 184 is an interesting patch of nebulosity in Sagittarius and associated with several other emission and reflection nebulae. I also like the dark nebula visible in the FOV.

This complex is located very close to M24 in an area densely populated by stars, gas and dust. All this stuff is located about 5,900 ly away.

This is a project I did with this new small APO I have been trying out for wide-field applications. I had a lot of problems with "blue bloat" and have come to realize that using 0.8x reducer might not be a good idea. I wound up using the luminance of the stars extracted from the HA frames and replaced the stars from the lumiance channel and that helped quite a bit. But there is still a lot of residual blue bloat left from the blue channel.

I also did some Oiii to see if I could bring out the blue reflection nebulae in a better way and I think that worked to a point but there is not much in the way of Oiii here, or at least what I was able to capture. But there was a nice amount of Ha to be had.

As far as the testing of this instrument is concerned, I am not happy with it at f/4.8 using the reducer flattener, I'm no expert in optics but I'm thinking that reducing an already fairly fast doublet is cutting the salami too thin so to speak. I'll do something at f/6 and decide what to do with this.

Thanks for looking, I hope you like it. And of course, comments/criticism always welcome.

CS and good health!
