Description

This face-on spiral galaxy is only 10 light years away and the third largest in the northern sky. Unfortunately it happens to fall right along the plane of the Milky Way and is obscured by all the gas, dust and stars in between, so it's called the "Hidden Galaxy." I caught this one on a night of mediocre transparency the week before Christmas and will need more data on a better night to clear up the smudgy arms.
