Description

This is an apparent grouping of galaxies in the constellation of Leo. At the far left is the elliptical galaxy, M105, lying at a distance of 36.6 million light years. At its center is a supermassive black hole with a mass of between 1.4 and 2.0 x 10^8 solar masses. At the lower middle is NGC 3371, a lenticular galaxy and a true neighbor of M105 at a distance from it of only 6.2 light years. At the far right is spiral galaxy NGC 3389 at a distance of nearly twice as far as M105 and NGC 3371...some 70 million light years. It's distinctly bluish color indicates that starbirth is active in this galaxy.
