Description

This image depicts an interesting geological feature, the Aristarchus plateau. The crater Aristarchus is one of the brightest features on the lunar surface. Just northwest of this is the sinuous rille Vallis Schroteri, measuring 185 km long and 10 km wide. To the northeast is a partially buried crater Prinz (submerged by lava flows.)

I obtained this image using my C8 SCT and a 2x Barlow lens. Seeing for this session was not that good, so I ended up using only 10% of 10 000 frames acquired. The use of a IR pass filter also helped to reduce the effect of poor atmospheric seeing. The moon was approximately 60 degrees above the horizon during this session. The image was acquired with a ZWO ASI 178MM (gain = 210, 30 fps.)
