Description

This grouping of stars was observed and described for the first time by the Arab astronomer Al Sufi in the 10th century; however, it was not reported by Messier, nor by William Herschel, nor by the NGC catalogue, probably because it was not considered a cluster, given its considerable apparent extent, but rather a simple asterism. The first to catalog it was Per Collinder , who included it in his catalog in 1931.
