      Description

Sharpless 115 is a large, faint emission nebula in Cygnus approximately 1.5 degrees northwest of Deneb.  It is powered by the hot stars in the cluster Berkeley 90 which is likely only 100 million years old and still embedded in Sharpless 115.  It's located about 7500 light years away and is just under 100 light years in diameter.  For a long time, Sharpless 116 was considered a planetary nebula (even with proper designations of Abell 71, PK 085+04.1 and PN G084.9+04.4), but more recent studies indicate it is a small patch of emission nebula.

      Taken over several nights:  Jun 14, 18, 21 and 24, 2022.
