Description

Mars on Easter Sunday 17 Apr 2022 AEST.

Imaged planetary trifecta this morning: Mars, Saturn and Venus.  The weather finally cooperated with a clear moonlit sky greeting me at 5am.  It has been quite disappointing lately with persistent cloudy conditions and patches of fog before dawn.

Approximately 2,000 frames have been combined to produce this image of the Red Planet centered on the Elysium hemisphere.  The volcanic peak is sporting a white orographic cloud on the planet's meridian.  In the south Mare Cimmerium, Mare Tyrrhenum and Syrtis Minor dominate the view.   The South Polar Cap appears to show a dark feature across its face and has a very well defined boundary separating it from more moderate latitudes.

This is the best out of five runs taken between 5:22 and 5:43 am Canberra time, it is centered on 5:41 am.  The seeing has peaked around that time with conditions progressively getting worse as the sky brightened.
