A fine display and a nice mix of red giant (cool) stars and many blue/white (very hot) stars. Located in the constellation of Scorpius approximately 18,600 light years from Earth. The cluster consists of approximately 100 stars.
Positioned against the backdrop of the Milky Way, the cluster shares the field with a number of dark nebulae, clouds of dust blocking out the light from the stars behind. The contrasting star colours, dark dust lanes and busy star field makes for an interesting visual display.
Description: Small tweaks in Pixinsight to cut back black point and adjust star colours.
