Description

I’ve always wanted to get one awesome image of the Milky Way Arch, and it finally happened! I drove to a Bortle 2 zone 2 hours away 3 times and practiced imaging the Arch as soon as it rose around 1-2AM. This is a 3-panel mosaic of the Arch over a Joshua Tree! The green hue near the horizon is airglow, visible from dark sites. The light dome to the left is from home, Las Vegas. The one to the right wasn’t really visible from there so not sure if it’s a city in California or something else. This was taken at 2:30AM using the Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer Pro, Canon Ra and 14mm lens. The tree in the center was extremely difficult to process (especially when you’re a Photoshop noob like me). The tree appeared perfectly crisp on the foreground layer but very blurry on the sky layer. I should have just imaged the arch away from the tree, but I was dead set on having the sky exactly where it was supposed to be that I never moved the tripod for both foreground and sky.
