Description

I captured this image the 12, 13, 14 November 2022, while slaloming between the raising moon and the fog that was terminating the clear sky after 3 hours of observation.

The nebula was discovered in 1941 by Rebecca Jones at Harvard University in 1941, and named Jones 1 (Jn 1, PN G104.2-29.6) after her name. The latest distance measurement places it at 3200 ly from earth, pretty far away from the Galactic plane. The progenitor star is visible, blue, and is responsible for the nebula ionization, specially strong in OIII.

In the lower right corner of the picture, two galaxies are visible:
PGC 71753 is 170 Million light year away and has a diameter of 70kly. It is at hour 10:00 in the starless detail here below.
PGC 71748 (at hour 4:00 in the picture below) is a barred spiral listed by Halton Arp in his catalog as Arp 46, in the category "Galaxies with faint companion". The companion is visible in our picture here when enlarged. The measured speed of the companion is 1000 km/sec higher than the main galaxy one, placing it virtually 50 Mly further away and arising some doubt on the interaction among the two galaxies. Based on its speed PGC 71748 is at 250 Mly distance.
