Description

It is an impressive crater field located south of the Sea of Clouds (Mare Imbrium) dominated by the famous Tycho Crater.

A probe, Surveyor 7, the last lunar probe of the U.S. Surveyor program to explore the moon, was launched on January 7, 1968. It landed north of this crater.

Tycho is one of the youngest lunar craters, whose age has been estimated at 100 million years, with a diameter of 85 km, a depth of 4850 m and a central mountain range of 1600 m altitude visible here illuminated by the Sun.

The ground inside the crater is very uneven and we can also see its characteristic enclosure in terraces.
