Description

The Andromeda Galaxy ... Messier 31 ... Updated
This is our galactic neighbor being about 2.5 million light-years away and consists of about 1 trillion stars, as compared to about 250 billion stars in our own Milky Way Galaxy. The bright fuzzy ball to the lower right of the galaxy is a dwarf galaxy, M32 and the small ellipsoid above the galaxy is the small companion galaxy M110. You can see this galaxy with the unaided eye in dark skies high in the NE by 7 pm in early November and high overhead around midnight.
I took this picture on the night of November 1 & 2. It is composed of 192 sub-exposures of 2 minute each resulting in a total exposure of 6hr:24mn. There were periods of clouds resulting in trashing over 50 images. Tonight will be clear and I hope to add at least 5 more hours to the product.
