Description

Mineral moon, 94%

Summer nights don’t make it easy to capture DSO, so I’ve been mainly focusing on the moon with the DSLR camera. Single shots, videos, the moon obscured by clouds. Last night I decided to try out a mineral moon again. Although the lens doesn’t capture the moon big enough, it’s just about enough to catch some details, with some nice colouring of the minerals on the moon.

The moon’s surface material, known as regolith, has subtle colour differences created by the mineral composition in any particular area. The blue tones reveal areas rich in ilmenite, which contains iron, titanium and oxygen, mainly titanium, while the orange and purple colours show regions relatively poor in titanium and iron

Just about enough shots to bring out the detail and the colouring. A bit of artefacts/colour skew near the fringes. Maybe a bit more next time

Clear Skies everybody! 🤩✨🔭
