Description

This is the first naked eye comet I've ever seen, despite all my years of looking at the night sky. This comet takes nearly 7,000 years to make one trip around the Sun, which means that the last time humans saw it, there were no Egyptian pyramids, no Stonehenge. No Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity, or Islam. In fact, we were only beginning to create written language!

Anyway, last night, my son and I drove to a farm near our house in order to get an unobstructed view of the horizon. We both got eaten alive by mosquitoes, but he said it was one of the most fun nights he's ever had!
