Description

This object is a small barred spiral double-ring galaxy located 300 million light years away in the constellation of Draco at a declination of +59 degrees. This magnitude 14 galaxy spans 1.5 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a Milky Way like diameter of 120,000 light years.

Despite being an obscure object, this galaxy has been imaged once before on Astrobin, by my friend Gotthard. His version is here.

I imaged this galaxy because I enjoy seeing these unusual barred ring galaxies. This galaxy has two rings – a fairly common mid region ring enclosing the bar, and a more unusual outer ring. This outer ring is actually comprised of 2 overlapping rings with slightly different inclinations. Scientists call this type of outer ring a pseudoring. Pseudorings are more common than true outer rings.

I cropped this object to make the small galaxy more visible. The image field radius is 0.08 degrees.
