Not a pretty picture. I have always desired to capture as many dark structures in M31 as possible, which starts to get tricky as one moves toward the core. I decided to do a study to see if I could determine what, actually, there is to pick up in the way of dust and dark structures around the core. Have I been chasing phantoms? Or is it time well spent. This is the result. This happens to be the green filter--about 1.5 hours of 20 sec subs using the TOA `130. I think the results are pretty
clear...dust/dark structures can be detected almost right up to the core itself. The region around the center shows some concetric artifacts--pulling out the structures in this area was quite difficult.
For Version C, I added the original as a luminance to a crop of my HaLRGB image. It should be possible to do this with the full M31 image--I will see what I can do...Sucess!! see my M31 image a bit further down my page
