Description

I wanted to revisit this wonderful edge on spiral at f6.3 in my 8” SCT to try and pull out a bit more detail in the core and add some colour. Atmospheric stability had definitely deteriorated from the previous evening, with a HFD ~5, and my autoguider was fighting the poor seeing with RMS ~1.5. I had to throw away over half the luminance frames due to atmospheric distortion, despite the focus being OK, and my colour frames were a ‘washout’, possibly due to a filter slide not being fully closed, resulting in some light ingress. I quite like the image scale, but sadly no more detail, and posted really as a reminder to self that some clear, dark nights are just not suitable.

Fortunately, I consider Astrobin as a bit of an art (and science) community, where anything much goes and we can share and learn from our successes and mistakes, whilst we improve our skills and processes. If you are after a high end gallery, then there are plenty of those to choose from as well. I try not to get too uptight or ‘on edge’ about these things, as long as we are all having some fun.
