Description

Eastern Veil Nebula @ f4.9 with Canon 60D digital SLR. Imaged in Ha, unguided.

"NGC 6992, NGC 6995 - The Eastern Veil Nebula... a large, relatively faint supernova remnant in the constellation Cygnus. Also known as the Cygnus Loop or the Witch's Broom Nebula, it is a favorite summer celestial showpiece, especially its eastern segment."

++++++

This is my first image taken with Stellarvue 70t and the SV flattener/reducer.

About an hour of exposure time.

This is ***first light*** with my new scope!

Technical fun:

I found that I had to crop the edges out due to some oval shaped stars in the corners. I have no experience with small triplets and their flattener/reducers and here are some things I did wrong:

1. The Canon EOS T-ring seemed to be too tight on the FR threads - I didn't realize that it can be loosened off with three tiny three hex key around the ring itself, and then reset. 🙂😂 oops

2. Armed with that observation, I removed the _proper spacer_ put it all together and ran the FR too close to the camera body.

3. I forgot my Bahtinov mask (of course) so I did my usual manual focusing ritual at 10X live view.

Thus my oval stars in the corners (I think)... anyway I have redone the fittings, all is well and I can't wait to try this proper configuration.

AP is a very humbling endeavour, ha ha.

Despite these minor difficulties I am quite pleased that my scope seems to function as intended. Its nice for visual too.

Description: I have attempted to restore the red and blue levels which I initially removed, to improve the signal/noise and contrast that the initial data hinted at. :)

Description: This is a version imaged in late June 2020, using no filters. One big difference is that I used my small tracking mount and likely overloaded it, hence some oval stars.

Very faint without the Ha filter; processed to remove green.
