Description

UNGUIDED
CDK20: FL 2280mm,  F/4.5,  0.34 arcsec/pixel raw
Imaged 12/15/2020, 1/20/2022, 1/22/2022, 1/23/2022
Ha taken with a full moon.

This is my second attempt at Abell 28.  The first attempt using the CDK14 produced a very poor quality image.  This target is very rarely imaged, only a few showing on Astrobin.  I think the likely reason is it is exceptionally dim.  There is zero Oiii and the Ha on this target is much dimmer, than even the Oiii on the Squid, for a comparison.  Single frames of Ha at the F/7.2 of the CDK14 for 600 second exposures show not the faintest trace of signal.
Fortunately, my new CDK20 with 0.66 reducer comes in at F/4.5, giving a much stronger signal for the Ha.
So the Ha is at least barely visible on single subs.
The RGB comes from the CDK14 taken Dec 2020.

Abell 28 is a planetary nebula in the constellation Ursa Major with very low surface brightness and a diameter of about 5.5 arcmin. The brightness is unevenly distributed over the disk. I have found this to be one of the dimmest PNs I have imaged. The Oiii is basically non-existent, and the Ha is incredibly faint. It took a lot of careful processing to bring it out.
