Description

I got up early to see if I could capture comet NEOWISE from a high up location just a few minutes from my home. The weather has been hot, hazy, and humid for days and clouds can't seem to decide if they want to go or stay because the air is so unstable. The mosquitoes were especially vicious, I could barely stand at the camera for more than 10 seconds. I ran off a few groups of shots with my DSLR and a kit lens, hoping to get something. The sky was very bright, and the haze and low clouds and fog were making it difficult to nail down the comet. I could not see NEOWISE with the naked eye. The breaking dawn was very pretty, and there were thousands of fireflies twinkling away as far as I could see. The shot managed to capture the amazing sky colors and the fireflies, the comet and stars are pretty well washed out though.

Shots were taken from Discovery Parkway, Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, at the County Grounds Park.

40x5s, f/5, ISO1250. Canon 60d modified, EF 18-200 kit lens. Stacked and blended foreground separate from sky .
