Description

This galaxy in Canes Venatici is a bit peculiar. It is relatively close (14 million light years) but faint and large (15 arc minutes). It's supermassive black hole is small (an oxymoron?) - one sixth the mass of the Milky Way's.

Seyert galaxies account for about 10% of all those out there. Like quasars, they display strong UV spectra thought to arise from matter in the accretion disc that is being swallowed by black holes in the galactic core.
