Description

Clouds, wind, and incredibly bad seeing are tag-teaming against me, so for distraction I thought I'd try a first planetary image. I had a Jupiter video that I took between targets a while ago, and saved despite it being pretty poor quality, but something to walk through a tutorial with. No question the end result exhibits both data and datatician limitations, but still, what the software (PIPP/Autostakkert!/Registax) was able to do with what it had to work with is pretty astounding.

For fun,  I added the stars, but though they give the planet some dimension, there's something odd about it too. I think because all our images are either solar system without stars, or DSO's with intervening stars. Having the stars so completely in the background of an AP subject looks a little strange....

Trigger warning---the stars in the image are not the star field around Jupiter, they are simply what I had at hand that worked relatively well. All in good fun, and no one was hurt....

Cheers,
Scott
