Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a group of 4 spiral galaxies located 250 million light years away in the constellation of Pisces at a declination of +8 degrees.  These galaxies are in the same neighborhood but are apparently far enough apart to not be interacting, since little disturbance is seen.

The largest galaxy, NGC 7782, is a slightly barred magnitude 12 galaxy.  It spans 3 arc-minutes in our apparent view and has a large diameter of 220,000 light years.  We are viewing this galaxy about 25 degrees from edge-on.  I like the galaxy disk, which looks more like a series of concentric pseudo-rings than any type of traditional arm structure.  Despite the distance, some blue star clouds are visible in the disk.

NGC 7779 is interesting, resembling a lenticular galaxy on the inner disk but with 2 bluish arcs in the outer disk, at left and right.  Its lenticular neighbor, NGC 7778, looks adjacent but is likely several million light years away in the out of plane dimension of the image. The 4th and smallest bright galaxy in the image is the edge-on spiral NGC 7781, which is 10 million light years further away.
