Description

I was in Vacation in the alps of northern Italy. To be able to image during that 2 week period, I purchased an TS 70mm Flatfield APO and put together a setup that is light and portable (kind of). It turned out, that I had no experience to guess, what the weather during the nights might be. After some nights with lightening and rain, I was finally able to image. But the next problem was the moon, that was nearly 90% at that day. I decided to point the telescope at the Elephants Trunk Nebula IC1396 and do only H-Alpha images.

For the first time, I tried the Three Point Polar Alignment Plugin in Nina. It worked really well and my guiding graph was absolutely amazing. I had a total guiding error of about 0.22 pixels. That showed me, that a good polar alignment is essential. The subs were really clean. I took about 6 hours of data. Sadly there were two time spans with some clouds out there, that the equipment handled very well. In the end, I was able to use 39 subs with 5 Minutes each.

The resulting monochrome image was great and I will add some other narrowband data when the moon is not out all the night. The new telescope with 350mm focal length offers some great new opportunities during the summer and autumn months.
