Description

I imaged Venus across a range of wavelengths last evening. The seeing was fair to good. This is a false colour image, effectively spectrum shifted from the blue-violet end of the spectrum to the visible spectrum. I mapped Blue to Red, Violet to Green and UV to Blue.

After balancing the RGB channels, this golden colour was the result. More often when I do this the resultant colour is more blue as Venus is bright in UV. However, as you can see from the UV image, the banding is distinct but there are large dark areas, i.e. those with less UV light. Therefore on balance the colour shifts towards the yellow/ red end of the visible spectrum. I have found previously, especially when the seeing is very good, structure in all three channels. Whilst the patterns are often similar, like RGB channels of any of the planets, there can also be differences.

If you look carefully at the Blue channel image, you can just make out similar patterns to those in the Violet and UV images, but they are very subtle.
