Description

This spiral galaxy is located 50 million light years away in the constellation of Eridanus at a declination of -8 degrees.  This is the 2nd image of this galaxy on Astrobin.

It is a magnitude 12 galaxy which spans 7 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 90,000 light years.  The disk is just over 10 degrees from edge-on in our apparent view.

Despite the near edge-on view, we can see some of the arm structure, which looks like 4 arms with hints of VV rows throughout.  Since the galaxy is relatively close to us, we can see dust lane details as well as star clouds in the disk.

Small galaxies are seen to the right of NGC 1337, which I estimate to be about 2 billion light years away.
