Description

I had two clear nights from my back yard to spend some time imaging. I started out wanting to add more hours to my Markarian's Chain image, but after a few subs I noticed it was too late in the night to get much data on it. Instead I decided to aim nearby and lower in the horizon at the Whale Galaxy and it's partner. Unknown to me, I was to be photobombed in the middle of the night by Comet C/2020 R4 (Atlas). It moved steadily across my frames over several hours, but mostly in the luminance frames.

It's possible I could have planned this had comets been turned on in my planetarium program, but instead I won the astrophotography lottery. By sheer luck, I pointed at the right object, on the right night, and time frame to capture this triplet.
