Description

Herbig-Haro 555 is the name of these narrow jets of pink gas ejected by a new protostar embedded in the snake-like tower of dust and gas (top right). Protostars are the beginning stage of stellar evolution just before they begin nuclear fusion and convert hydrogen into Helium. The spinning material all around it falls onto the protostar and shoots out from its rotation axis. The star itself cannot be seen as it is enshrouded in dust.

This is an RGB image enhanced with H-alpha in the red channel and H-beta in the blue.
