Description

Barred spiral galaxy NGC 2903 is only 20 million light-years distant in the northern spring constellation Leo. NGC 2903 exhibits an exceptional rate of star formation activity near its center, also bright in radio, infrared, ultraviolet, and x-ray bands. Just a little smaller than our own Milky Way, NGC 2903 is about 80,000 light-years across. [excerpted from NASA APOD 2019]. 72% of the stellar mass is located in the outer disk of the galaxy, and 20% is found in the bar. The central volume of the core is a strong starburst region fed by gas inflow along the bar. There is no evidence of an active nucleus. [from Wikipedia]. North is up.
