Description

This Astrobin Debut Object, also known as UGC 5832, is a disturbed spiral galaxy located 60 million light years away in the constellation of Leo at a declination of +13 degrees. This magnitude 14 galaxy spans 1.3 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a small diameter of just 25,000 light years.

In his Arp catalog, Dr. Arp classified this object into the category of Double Galaxies with Wind Effects. Yet again, I do not understand the categorization of this one. I only see one galaxy here.

This looks like the standard Magellan galaxy, with an off-center blue barred core and star plumes.

At lower left, a small white wisp appears to be emanating upward from the star itself, looking like an artifact of some sort. But it is real. I am not sure what it is - perhaps a small reflection nebula.
