Description

This beauty is the Iris Nebula, a dramatic reflection nebula in the constellation Cepheus, about 1300 light years away, measuring 6 light years across. I don’t post a lot of reflection nebula images like this because they’re really hard to do justice in an area with lots of light pollution like where I am: the dark clouds of dust that surround them are very faint, and are best photographed from dark sky areas. To make up for the light pollution, I have to spend a lot more time imaging to pull out the detail, or try to. Still, this has been one that’s been worth the effort: I’ve been wanting to image this one for a while now.
