Description

Surprisingly, the sky cleared last night and other than the weather forecast suggests, it stayed clear the whole night. Because it was one of the rare days without the moon out, i decided to go for narrowband images. Because I thought the clouds would come back soon and I won't be able to get all the subs I need for a color image, I did some experiments with the gain set to 178 on my ASI 183MM Pro. I always had problems to integrate those frames. With the new darks in my library, I thought this problem could be solved.

So I took about 10 images (per filter) with 600s each using the Ha, OIII and SII filter. It happened, that the conditions during the night were really stable and I managed to finish all wanted subs. Today I tried to get more into image processing and finished my first picture using the Hubble palette. There're still things to be learned (i.e. reducing the star size) but for now, I am really happy with the result.

The Sulfur II data is put into the red channel. Oxygen III is used as the blue channel. The green channel is a combination of 80% Ha and 20% SII. The resulting greenish image was then corrected using the SCNR-Function to get the nicer looking yellowish/blueish colors that are typical for most Hubble palette images. It is just a personal taste. But this way, the contrast of the nebula details is increased really drastic.
