Description

Making this photo was a rather difficult job for me as, once the rgb photo was created, I could barely distinguish some vague color of the various nebulosity, everything was immersed in a disheartening haze. Unfortunately, this did not surprise me too much as my shooting area, even if very dark and on a mountain about 1000 meters high, is in the south of Tuscany and consequently the nebulosity that I filmed came to me at a maximum height above the horizon of only about 23 degrees and I started shooting with only 16 degrees above the horizon! Even if taken a little by the discouragement, given the first color photo, I did not give up and I used some elaborations that I had never used on other astronomical subjects, in particular it was of fundamental help the use of Starnet v2 which eliminates all the stars, after I put back only the brightest ones and the star clusters, by doing this I greatly increased the visibility of the details of the various nebulae and some, which were hardly visible, later turned out to be very evident. The use of the h alpha filter for 3 exposures of 30 minutes was very important to give brightness and details to the red nebulae. Everything else was done using rgb filters. The use of the excellent Samyang 135 mm F / 2 telephoto lens that I was able to use at maximum aperture and the Neq 6 mount that allowed me to shoot in the presence of always very strong wind was of great help. Finally, I must say that I was really surprised by the result as I thought that to get something similar you had to go under the skies of Namibia.
