Description

The Jellyfish Nebula in the SHO Hubble palette with RGB stars.

IC 443, or Sh2-248, is a supernova remnant in the constellation Gemini. It is believed that the supernova happened between 3,000 and 30,000 years ago. The Jellyfish is located about 5,000 light-years from Earth and, as we observe it, it appears almost twice the size of the full Moon.

This was shot in narrowband and processed in the SHO Hubble palette. I used StarExterminator to swap the stars in the narrowband image for RGB stars. These look better in my opinion, but also help to improve the artefacts produced by my equipment on the bright star Eta Geminorum.
