We newly installed a CDK20 on a remote high mountain in Taiwan. This image of M13 is its first "engineering" light, to just verify the various aspects of the telescope, mount, and camera, right after the installation. No attempt was made to adjust the optical collimation at that time, but it turned out the collimation wasn't too far off. Polar alignment was very rough. There was not a guider at that time either, so we could only do unguided imaging after making a quick pointing model. Despite all these limitations, the result isn't too bad.

The tri-color image was taken with Johnson photometric B, V, and R filters, which are kind of similar to photographic B, G, and R filters. Here I also attach an H-R diagram derived from this image. You can clearly see the basic features of a globular cluster: the main sequence, the turning point, the asymptotic giant branch, and the horizontal branch.

The picture of the telescope was taken after the basic installation, without many essential accessories. Now the telescope is fully functional, with good collimation, good polar alignment, and with an OAG. It can be operated remotely and can take images routinely as long as weather permits. This telescope will be used for observing transient events and also for education (like making an H-R diagram or any other kinds of textbook examples, and also creating a pretty picture at the same time).

The original image is a 50% reduction of the full FoV. Rev.D is a 100% crop of the center.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
