Description

Today the aurora parameters were about average, but I kept an eye on them because I saw that they were getting better. So after getting home from work I quickly went to eat. While cooking I saw that the activity got significantly better, meaning something good was coming. I took my camera and walked into the wilderness area just a few kilometers from my house. The auroras had significant amounts of red and it was just mystical to listen to the sounds of freezing lakes nearby. The auroras covered the entire sky for a long time, but had a pause at some point and they significantly lightened up the landscape, making it easier to walk in the dark.

The kp-value reached a number of 3, so this is not even that high of an activity and is not classified as a geomagnetic storm, but in the right locations that's more than enough to spark a full-sky show.

Kilpisjärvi, Finland. 69 degrees north.
