Description

After a long period of cloudy and rainy skies I finally had the chance to work with my new mount under real conditions. I played with it for several weeks now inside and in aftermath it was not bad that I got the time to do it since there was a whole lot to learn about it. I want to thank John Travis for his support since he helped me a lot and without him I would not have been able to do everything that I can do now. This one is for you John!!

It is only one night of capturing data, the first night out was just for getting used to all the new features and learning from mistakes. Stayed up until 1am in the morning even with work next morning getting up at 6am. At my age this is not the easiest, oh it would be so nice to be young again and partying all night (LOLOL).

I picked the Eagle Nebula as my first target since with the neighbors first pine tree down I have more integration time available for the further south targets (still not enough, the second pine tree needs to go soon!).

It is a combination of RGB data obtained with the Z61 and the ASI071MC and Hα and Lum data by the RASA 8" with the ASI1600MM.

The performance of the mount was better than I expected, and that makes me of course extremely happy. The guiding accuracy was around RMS 0.25, which are values that I could only dream about with my Losmandy mount. Guide calibration was done in a matter of a couple of minutes, there is NO backlash in this mount whatsoever, fantastic! Polar alignment is a breeze with the TPoint model that the SkyX program provides, no more Polaris needed. Pointing accuracy when slewing from one target to another one and plate solving with SGP: ~ 10 arc min, this is almost hard to believe (at least for me). The real test comes with a higher focal length trial, but so far I am a happy camper. An advice to all who want to buy a new mount: do not spare the money (if you can!), lower budget mounts just give you headaches and nightmares, and if you did not die from that you will buy a mount like that anyway!
