Description

The Southern Owl planetary nebula has a diameter of almost four light-years and is located in Hydra (The Female Water Snake). It gets its name from its fancied resemblance to the Owl Nebula (Messier 97, ESO 378-1) in Ursa Major. Catalogue designations for the Southern Owl are PN K 1-22 and PN G283.6+25.3.
