Description

Seagull Nebula IC 2177 (seagull’s head is Gum 1) is a magnitude 10 nebula in Monoceros on the border with Canis Major, and near Sirius. It is dominated by the reddish glow of atomic hydrogen. It is 3,800 ly from Earth and extends 100 ly across.
