Description

I got my first asteroid! While imaging the Leo Triplet, I was playing around with ASTAP's annotation tools and found out I had unintentionally captured the asteroid (1663) van den Bos just off to the side of the galaxy M 66. This ~11.8 magnitude, 12km in diameter asteroid was discovered in 1926 and has an orbit about 1.8 to 2.6 times the distance between Earth and the Sun.

This image is an animated GIF of the raw FITS files with just a "low+" stretch from ASTAP applied.
