Description

This galaxy has an unusually high number of spiral arms, tightly coiled around a bright core, giving rise to the "sunflower" name. Blue regions are illuminated by bright young stars, compared with emission nebulae glowing red from hot ionized hydrogen gas. Dens lanes of interstellar dust help to define the individual spiral arms.NGC 5055 lies at a distance of 35 million light years in the direction of the constellation Canes Venatici.

This was shot with a one-shot colour camera over two nights. Initially we planed to give it way more integration time, but bad weather prevented this as always. So we tried to do the post-processing anyway and not sure if it is good or so so. Please do comment and criticize.

Cheers Jacob
