Der Orionnebel (M422 oder NGC 1976) ist ein Emissionsnebel im Sternbild Orion. Aufgrund der hohen scheinbaren Helligkeit seines Zentrums oberhalb der 4. Größenordnung ist der Nebel mit bloßem Auge als Teil von Orions Schwert südlich der drei Sterne des Orion-Gürtels deutlich sichtbar. Insgesamt hat es eine Winkelausdehnung von etwa einem Grad.

Der Orionnebel ist eine Teilregion der interstellaren Molekülwolke OMC-1 im Molekularwolkenkomplex Orion. Es besteht hauptsächlich aus Wasserstoff. Im Nebel bilden sich Sterne, deren ionisierende Strahlung den Nebel im sichtbaren Bereich leuchten lässt. Es ist daher auch als H-II-Gebiet klassifiziert. Mit einer Entfernung von etwa 1350 Lichtjahren ist es eine der aktivsten Sternentstehungsregionen in der galaktischen Nachbarschaft, weshalb es ein bevorzugtes Studienobjekt für die Untersuchung der Sternentstehung ist. Es wird erwartet, dass er sich zu einem Plejaden-ähnlichen offenen Sternhaufen entwickelt.

Die Hauptionisationsquelle des Orionnebels ist der Stern θ¹ Orionis C1, der mit mehr als der 200.000-fachen Leuchtkraft der Sonne auch einer der leuchtendsten bekannten Sterne ist. Der unmittelbar benachbarte und ähnlich konfigurierte De Mairan-Nebel hat jedoch eine andere ionisierende Quelle und ist daher nicht Teil des Orionnebels.

It is expected to evolve into a Pleiades-like open star cluster.

The main ionization source of the Orion Nebula is the star θ¹ Orionis C1, which is also one of the most luminous stars known with more than 200,000 times the luminosity of the Sun. However, the immediately adjacent and similarly configured De Mairan's Nebula has a different ionizing source and is therefore not part of the Orion Nebula.

Even though my last Orion pictures were mostly well received, there was some (good) criticism here and there that I tried to heed ^^ So, one more time, the big Orion Nebula with the Running Man Nebula above it.
A little less purple, a little brighter, paid a little more attention to the stars and most importantly, I took care not to break the extremely bright core when editing :-)

Final workout of the large Orion Nebula in LRGB - a rework incorporating my current workflow, which I didn't use like this back then. This includes Generic Hyperbolic Strech, Blur X Terminator, Noise X Terminator, SPCC and this time, manually blended HDR. This is one of my last exposures, with the Skywatcher 150/750PDS, which has now been replaced by a Celestron SCEHD11.

It is expected to evolve into an open star cluster similar to the Pleiades.
