Description

Hi folks, two years after a first visit to this well-known feature, I decided to image it again with my new DLSR astro-modded. I spent 3 hours to shot IC1396 on a very good night with decent seeing and transparency. But to fight against light pollution around my block, I purchased a Hutech IDAS LPS D1 clip-in filter for Nikon. First test fully satisfying! Very happy to have this filter when I cannot drive a few kms away to the mountains.

So what about this beautiful nebula? Well, its main attraction is the Trunk itself, catalogued vdB142, an appendice-like structure extending 20 l-y from the border to the center of this huge gas and dust complex. The whole nebula spans 5 degrees in the sky, next to the famous Herschel's Garnet star (Mu Cephei), a supergiant red showing subtile garnet tint.

Comparing to my 2018 image, I'm pretty happy by the improvements I've reached in the post-processing stage :-) I continue to work hard on AP, so much fun :-) Hope you will enjoy my new image and stay safe everyone!

Clear skies. Christophe
