Description

This object, also known as NGC 3738, is an irregular dwarf galaxy located only 17 million light years away in the constellation of Ursa Major at a declination of +55 degrees. This magnitude 12 galaxy spans 1 arc-minute in our apparent view, which corresponds to a small diameter of 5000 light years. This galaxy was classified by Dr. Arp into the category of Galaxies with Appearance of Fission.

The galaxy is so close to us that we can easily see star clusters in the central area. I framed the object so that several other interesting galaxies are seen nearby, specifically NGC 3733 above and NGC 3756 below. These galaxies are much further away than Arp 234.
