Description

M104 is commonly known as the Sombrero Galaxy because of its resemblance to the Mexican hat. It lies in the constellation of Virgo at a distance of 31.1 million light years. Prominent in the image is its large central bulge and dark dust lane in the plane of its disk. It contains a supermassive black hole at its center with a mass of nearly 1 billion Sun's.
